In 1939 radio station WBN from Chicago is about to broadcast live to both coasts for the first time, but even though everything looks great for the audience and special guests, who gather in the theater, behind the curtains not everything is running as smoothly as can be expected. Penny Henderson tries to keep the show together despite the fact that main sponsor demands tons of changes made to the scripts in the last moment, scriptwriters are about quit, the show director is hardly competent to take care of his own life, not to mention Penny’s husband, Roger Henderson, she suspects is unfaithful. Oh, and there is one more problem - someone is killing people involved in the production. When police shows up they try not to interfere in the live broadcast, but unfortunately Roger quickly becomes the prime suspect and Penny is on a verge of nervous breakdown. Even so, the show must go on...
Murder mystery mixed with comedy, set in golden era of radio - while live show is being produced in front of the audience, in the background police is looking for a murderer, who for some reason kills people involved in the show. Despite involvement of George Lucas in production Radioland Murders was a ticket box flop and failed to find audience on the premiere. One of the problems was heavy use of slapstick in the story, which was accurate for the era that story takes place in, but hardly appropriate for modern audience. However, once you get through the slapstick rest of the film is a high quality script, cast filled with stars and unique tribute to old time radio. It is worth watching not for nostalgia, but because it is a good movie that was unfortunate to be produced in wrong times.
