Three Amigos 1986 review film review

Three Amigos (1986, United States)
In 1916, three Hollywood actors, Lucky Day, Dusty Bottoms, and Ned Nederlander, star in a series of movies as the Three Amigos, rich landowners, who fight the injustice in the Mexican countryside. After a... disagreement with the producer of those movies, they suddenly find themselves homeless and penniless. And that is when they receive a gift from heaven - a telegram from Mexico, offering them 100,000 pesos if they travel there to face the local celebrity, El Guapo. With no better options to choose from, they set out to Mexico... right after stealing their costumes from the production company. The first meeting with the locals does not go as bad as it might have, because of the coincidence that they stepped into the right place at the right moment. Soon they meet Carmen, the beautiful girl from the village harassed by the El Guapo. But before the Three Amigos realize they misread the telegram, they will be right in the middle of a local conflict.
American comedy starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short, built as a parody of the silent film era as well as the Western genre. The plot is typical escapism of the 1980s comedies, but with likeable characters, interestingly built scenes and well-written dialogues it is an iconic production of its era. A bit of pastiche, a bit of adventure and a bit of comedy mixed together gave this piece of entertainment a place in the history.
