During a party in Shanghai, Commander Lindsay shares with the guests the weird dream that he had. In that dream, he saw a DC-3 Dakota plane with eight passengers onboard, lost in the snow storm somewhere over Japan. The dream was so vivid that he could even tell that among the passengers there was a beautiful woman, an Air Marshal, an important civilian and someone with a loud voice that went berserk and had to be restrained. The other guests treat this story as an anecdote, even Air Marshal Hardie, who will take a flight to Tokyo the very next day. But Hardie and his assistant will be travelling aboard an RAF bomber, and with only one other passenger, so they just laugh it off. At least that was the plan, because in the last moment, the plane was changed to DC-3 Dakota. What is more an extra passenger will be travelling with them. Soon later, another official with a secretary will have to join them during the flight, but still, this means only six people. During the flight preparations they are approached by two soldiers, who missed their flight to Okinawa, who wonder if they could join them...

The Night My Number Came Up is supposedly based on a true story that happened to Air Marshal Sir Victor Goddard in 1945, and it is a story that is hard to describe or assign to a genre. It is a bit of a mystery, a bit of a thriller and parts of it are told in a light, comedy-like style. It is not a great story, it is not a great movie, but certainly has its charm and style.
