In the middle of cold Wisconsin winter, Jerry Lundegaard, a car salesman from Minneapolis, puts into action his plan to finally get access to some real money. The car dealership Jerry works for is owned by his rich father-in-law, but none of the family wealth is ending up on his lap, so Lundegaard came up with a plan so simple that it could not fail. He is gonna hire some people to kidnap his wife, father-in-law is gonna caught up the ransom money and Jerry is gonna intercept them. For this to work he has to hire some men, who will be the kidnappers, but as it turns out he knows someone who can help. And that is how he meets Carl and Gaear, who turns out to be a pair of slightly unstable individuals. Nevertheless, Jerry is desperate to move on with his plan, so he hires them for a new car and half of the expected ransom money. But then something unusual happens - the father-in-law suggests he could finance the idea Jerry has to buy a piece of land and turn it into a lucrative real estate. This means Jerry now has to stop the kidnappers from carrying on with the original plan.

Coen brothers classic movie - a mixture of crime drama and a dark comedy, a story of how greed can turn your life into a nightmare and how one decision could lead to unexpected chain of events. The simplicity of the story and the multi-angle narration gives this film a unique atmosphere - there are no deep thoughts from any of the characters, just basic human flaws push the story forward, towards an unexpecting ending.
