Persian king Xerxes is preparing the invasion of Greece. He has one of the largest and most powerful armies that world has ever seen, so he expects an easy win, especially since the Greek city-states are locked in political tensions between their leaders. While the other cities are preparing to fight, the one factor that works against them is time - they need time to prepare the armies. The city of Sparta is famous for its fearless warriors and unbreakable formation known as phalanx, the whole city-state is organized like military camp with even small boys training only to fulfil purpose - be the perfect soldiers. Xerxes sends his emissary to king Leonidas, hoping he will realize that in the entire Greece, there is no power strong enough to stop the Persian army. But Leonidas is less than impressed by the arrogant attitude of the Persians - he kills two of the emissaries and spares the last one. Only wounded, he is ordered to return to Xerxes and tell him that Sparta will not back down. Leonidas gathers 300 men and marches towards the pass called Thermopylae, which he thinks would be perfect to meet the Persian forces. With very narrow entrance and almost vertical cliffs around, Thermopylae will give the defenders huge advantage over the Persian army. The most famous last stand is about to begin...

The film, based on the comic books, which were loosely based on the true events and the Battle of Thermopylae, was made with huge amounts of special effects and in unique graphical style. The story is a mixture of truth and legends, some of the scenes have very little to do with reality, but the spectacle that takes place before your eyes in 300 makes you forget any such details.
