Unconventional teacher is trying to open the minds of students in conservative college using sometimes weird methods.

Patch Adams is suffering a nervous breakdown. During treatment he observes doctors and decides, despite not being young anymore, to start studying medicine himself to try to treat the patients, although his methods are rather unconventional.

A radio show host becomes involved in a story of one of his listeners - a young, traumatized boy. But soon parts of that story begin to fall apart.
