During 1990s Sierra Leone was in the era of great political tensions that almost turned into civil war. Working in one of the many diamond mines fisher Solomon finds and buries in the ground a huge pink diamond. When the area is reoccupied by government forces Solomon, along with others, is sent to prison, where where he meets white arms dealer Archer. Together they set out to cross the country to find that pink diamond. American journalist Maddy joins them on their trip across the country torn by civil war, chaos and violence, where children are trained to kill everyone, even loved ones, or used as human shields.
Well made movie, with beautiful pictures, with fast paced action, shows a part of the truth about life in Africa, which is generally ommited from the world media. Very good performance from Leonardo DiCaprio, who transforms from cunning, selfish arms dealer into a man who takes the side of the opressed local people. Also excellent soundtrack sets a unforgettable atmosphere.
